  • Calories – as much as it might seem obvious that you need to eat more in order to gain more weight in the first place, it needs to be the right kind of food. One of the best ways to do this is by eating extra calories in your diet. Since calories tend to be burnt off whenever you exercise, though, you need to account for this by eating more calories than you need to. A good guide is eating roughly 20 times your actual body weight in calories.
  • Protein – this is an excellent way to build maximum muscle gain, since protein contains an acid called amino, which is essential in building muscle. Therefore, a diet that contains meals rich in high protein foods is the very least you should aim for. A good average to aim for in order to achieve the best results is to eat 1g of protein for every pound you weigh.
  • Eat more often – again, this may sound fairly obvious, but the amount of people that miss this simple fact is higher than you might think. Instead of having three meals a day with a high calorie count per meal, you should have six or seven smaller meals with the same calorie count. Not only will this help you get maximum muscle gain faster, it will also stop your body keeping unwanted fat, since it will be able to break down smaller meals easier than larger ones.
  • Eat more fat – despite it sounding like the opposite of what you feel you should be doing, fat is essential in helping muscle grow. After all, it’s the fat that is turned into muscle when you exercise, so without it your workouts will be relatively pointless. However, it needs to be the right kind of fat – you need to aim for the “good fat”, such as unsaturated ones, as opposed to increasing the bad, saturated fats found in many foods.
  • Drink plenty of water – this works in two ways. When you exercise, your body overheats, and when it does this, it becomes dehydrated (much like you would on a hot summer’s day). To combat this, you need to drink water. Secondly, water helps to cleanse the body of bad toxins, leaving you with more energy to lift higher weights, therefore achieving maximum muscle gain.

To fully benefit from any weight-training program you’re on, you need to help your body to achieve the results you seek. Although your body has natural vitamins inside it, helping it with vitamin pills has a quicker effect when it comes to building maximum muscle gain.

The best types of vitamins are multi-vitamins, such as A, C and E, as well as glutamine and selenium. These help in the recovery period after strenuous exercise, as they help clear free radicals, allowing you to exercise shortly after your rest period.
